He got to know the artist, Vibeke, of the viking pretty well. He, in fact, was one of the glass people involved in the big art project that sits in front of the hotel that was designed by Costas Varatsos. Here it goes: The artist is Vibeke Skov, a Danish artist from North Jutland. The art curator here at the Hotel Murano, Tessa Papas, visited her in her studio and commissioned her to create the boats that will hang in the grand corridor. The frames of the boats were made in Denmark. Vibeke fired the 160 or so glass panels in her own studio and then shipped everything else to Tacoma. The panels display elements of Nordic myths. The largest boat (17.5' long) replicates the myths of Nordic gods, the middle sized boat (14' long) depicts the Nordic goddesses, and the smallest boat (12' long) depicts the Nordic creation myth.
